Over 5 million Australians suffer sports related injuries each year. Lower limb injuries are the most common form of injury across all sports and recreational activities, and “landing badly” on a playing surface, is the most common method of injury reported for both ankle and knee injuries.

In recent years, advances in materials technology have played a critical role in the development of sports surfaces and Orbcourt, Developed in Australia and currently produced for international use in the USA is at the cutting edge of new injury prevention sports flooring

The health, safety and comfort of athletes must be a prime consideration when selecting a sports surface. Orbcourt is Portable where needed, can be assembled in just hours and has major cost benefits over vinyl sheeted systems and permanent surfaces that compare in impact and force reduction readings.

Basketball, Netball, Indoor Soccer, Inline Skating & Hockey, Volleyball, Badminton & Handball are all played on Orbcourt here in Australia and internationally, with a 10 year warranty Herculan Australia is proud to be the Australasian agents for Orbcourt Systems

Shock Absorption (Force Reduction):
All movement activity generates energy; walking, running, jumping, turning, stopping, hopping, and falling. Energy directly returned to the body over time can result in injury. Shin splints, back and knee problems, fatigue, strains and even broken foot bones can result. A non-energy absorbent floor or flooring system, is dangerous and it can result in injury and potentially legal action. Concrete is non energy absorbent and any substance put directly onto concrete which does not adequately separate the athlete from the concrete, can cause problems. Orbcourt sports floor systems safely absorb these impact forces. Shock absorption should be considered for "all" sports floor installations.

Resilience (Standard Vertical Deformation):
In addition to energy absorbency, energy can be dissipated by resiliency (for example, a diving board or trampoline). Energy is transferred from the body to a surface which can deflect and safely return the energy (spring).

Surface Friction (Sliding Coefficient):
Often called the coefficient of friction or sliding coefficient, this characteristic is used to measure a floor's ability to control the sliding of athletes on its surface. For an Orbcourt sports flooring system, the surface friction is high enough to prevent premature and uncontrollable sliding on its surface, but also low enough to permit sliding if an extreme force (such as that from colliding with another athlete) is exerted.

Lateral Foot Support:
Perhaps the most important and most overlooked safety attribute is lateral foot support. Try standing on one leg on a resilient trampoline. No lateral foot support equates to no balance. Sink into an absorbent floor and you increase your chances of injuring an ankle. Today, the leading cause of injury in aerobics for example is not shin splints, but ankle injury, due in part to flooring systems that rely solely on absorbent materials or systems that are too spongy. Any floor/floor system that you can squash in your hands (feels soft) can be dangerous due to lack of lateral foot support.

Flatness:
It goes without saying that any sport surface must be flat and stable to minimize the risk of tripping. Orbcourt’s patented tiled sports surfaces ensure a flat surface is maintained, as it will not warp or distort as a result of thermal expansion.
